Our team comprises seasoned fertility specialists who deliver comprehensive care tailored to each patient’s circumstances. We use proven IUI techniques and develop customized treatment strategies to improve your chances of conception.

We prioritize your comfort and success — clinical excellence paired with a nurturing, supportive environment at every visit.

Here’s a quick overview of what IUI treatment involves.

About IUI Treatment

IUI is a fertility treatment where sperm is placed directly into a woman’s uterus to enable fertilization. The goal is to improve the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes, increasing the chances of fertilization — sperm still has to reach and fertilize the egg on its own. It’s less invasive and less expensive than IVF. Doctors recommend IUI for couples with unexplained infertility, mild male-factor infertility, or women with cervical mucus problems.

Now, let’s dive into the types of IUI treatments we offer.

Types of IUI Treatments We Provide

Natural Cycle IUI

  • Performed without medications
  • Timed to the woman’s natural ovulation cycle
  • Often used for unexplained infertility in women with regular menstrual cycles

Stimulated IUI

  • Ovarian stimulation to produce multiple eggs
  • Increases fertilization chances by providing more targets for the sperm
  • Particularly beneficial for irregular ovulation or male-factor infertility

IUI for Cervical Factor Infertility

  • Used when cervical issues prevent sperm from passing through to the uterus
  • IUI bypasses the cervix, placing sperm directly into the uterus

Donor Sperm IUI

  • Used for significant male-factor infertility, genetic considerations, or single women and same-sex couples wishing to conceive
  • Donor sperm from a sperm bank is thawed and prepared for insemination

Our Procedure & Approach

Reviewed by Dr. Nisarg Patel, Director & IVF Specialist, Nisha IVF Centre.
01

Initial Consultation

A thorough discussion of both partners’ medical histories, and alignment on fertility goals and treatment strategy.
02

Fertility Assessments

Both partners undergo fertility testing: semen analysis for count, motility, and morphology; ovulation tracking via blood tests and ultrasound for the female partner; hormone-level blood tests.
03

Treatment Preparation

Fertility drugs may be used to stimulate ovulation and support good-quality egg development. Follicle growth is monitored via ultrasound to pinpoint the right timing.
04

IUI Procedure

A semen sample is collected and prepared to concentrate the healthiest sperm into a small volume. The doctor places the prepared sperm into the uterus via a thin catheter, timed closely with ovulation.
05

Post-Procedural Care

A brief rest period, then home. A pregnancy test follows about two weeks after insemination.
06

Evaluation and Next Steps

A positive result moves to prenatal care. An unsuccessful cycle may lead to repeating IUI or considering other options, based on your preferences and your doctor’s recommendation.

Our IUI Success Rates & Results

IUI success varies more than IVF success, because it depends heavily on individual factors rather than lab-controlled variables. Rather than quote a single number that would be misleading for most patients, here’s what actually determines your chances:

Age

The single biggest factor — success declines noticeably after 35, and more so after 40.

Diagnosis

Unexplained infertility and mild male-factor cases respond better to IUI than tubal blockage or severe male-factor infertility.

Cycle type

Stimulated cycles generally outperform natural cycles, since more mature eggs are available for fertilization.

Cycle number

Cumulative chances improve over 3–4 attempts; success per individual cycle is lower than the cumulative rate across several.
This is why we don’t advertise a single headline percentage — it would understate the odds for some patients and overstate them for others. What we do instead: assess your specific factors honestly at your consultation, and recommend re-evaluating the approach — rather than repeating the same protocol indefinitely — after 3–4 unsuccessful cycles.

Signs of a Successful IUI: What to Expect During the Two-Week Wait

The two weeks between your IUI procedure and your pregnancy test are often the hardest part of the process. It’s natural to look for early signs — but it’s important to know that most of these symptoms are caused by the progesterone support you’re already taking, not by pregnancy itself. That means they can’t reliably tell you the outcome either way.

A blood or urine pregnancy test roughly 14 days after your IUI is the only reliable way to confirm the result. Testing earlier with a home kit can give a false positive (from residual trigger-shot hCG) or a false negative (too early for hCG to be detectable) — both add stress without giving you real information.

Mild cramping or light spotting

Sometimes linked to implantation, around 6–12 days after IUI. Very similar to normal premenstrual cramping.

Breast tenderness

Common with both pregnancy and progesterone supplementation. Not a reliable indicator on its own.

Fatigue or mild nausea

Reported by patients whether or not the cycle succeeds. Also a normal progesterone side effect.

Frequent urination or mood changes

Can occur with hormonal support regardless of outcome. Not specific to pregnancy.
Just as important: having none of these symptoms doesn’t mean the cycle failed, and having several doesn’t mean it succeeded. We see both patterns in patients who go on to test positive and in patients who don’t. Try not to read too much into symptoms either way — we know that’s easier said than done during the wait, and our team is available if you want to talk through what you’re experiencing.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between IUI and IVF?

IUI places prepared sperm directly into the uterus, and fertilization still happens inside the body. IVF fertilizes the egg outside the body in a lab before transferring the embryo. IUI is less invasive and less expensive, and is typically tried first for milder fertility issues.

How does IUI treatment work with donor sperm?

In IUI with donor sperm, sperm from a screened donor is used instead of the partner’s sperm, then placed directly into the uterus.

Is IUI treatment painful?

IUI is generally not painful, though some women may experience mild discomfort similar to a Pap smear.

How many IUI cycles are typically recommended before moving to other treatments?

Generally, 3 to 6 IUI cycles are recommended before considering other fertility treatments like IVF.

Can IUI be performed during a natural menstrual cycle?

Yes — IUI can be done during a natural cycle, though fertility medications are sometimes used to increase the chances of success.

What is the success rate of IUI?

It varies more than IVF success, because it depends heavily on age, diagnosis, cycle type, and how many cycles you’ve done — a single published number would be misleading for most patients. Chances improve with stimulated cycles and cumulatively over 3–4 attempts. We’ll walk you through what to realistically expect based on your specific case at your consultation.
